ALISO VIEJO, Calif. – Microsemi Corp. in Aliso Viejo, Calif., is introducing the commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) radiation-tolerant SA.45s commercial space chip scale atomic clock (CSAC) for low-Earth-orbit (LEO) space applications.

The device provides the accuracy and stability of atomic clock technology with reduced size, weight, and power consumption (SWaP), and is for satellite timing and frequency control; satellite cross linking; assured position, navigation and timing; and Earth observation.

The CSAC provides drift performance and built-in 1-pulse-per-second input for working together with the global positioning system (GPS), suiting the device for holdover applications.

As a stand-alone atomic clock with a 10 MHz CMOS-compatible output, Microsemi's CSAC is a timing module providing short-term stability and frequency stability across its operating temperature.

A built-in standard CMOS-level RS-232 serial interface controls and calibrates the unit, and provides a set of status monitors. The interface also sets and reads the CSAC's precise internal time-of-day clock.
