April 30, 2019-Flying from Sydney or Melbourne nonstop would be one heck of a long-haul, but Qantas says it will be ready to make the flight next year and will be able to traverse the nearly 17,000 kilometers (10,500 miles) without a pit stop. Last year, Quantas connected Perth, on the west coast of the country to London directly, which is a 17 hour flight. A flight from Sydney tacks on an additional four hours of flying time. Qantas CEO Alan Joyce told a crowd at an Amazon Web Services summit that he believes "there’s an aircraft capable of doing that."
