Japan Airlines (JAL) International in Tokyo, having ordered 30 Boeing 737 next-generation series aircraft this year, sought to equip its long-range 737-800 jetliners with a top-mounted, low-profile antenna. JAL settled on a solution to meet its needs, the SatLite from CMC Electronics in Quebec City.
The SatLite, with the same technology and architecture employed by CMC’s CMA-2102 high-gain system, is a compact satellite communications (Satcom) antenna system. The new offering weighs less than 17 pounds and measures 2.6 by 39.8 by 13.1 inches.
The SatLite antenna provides not only compatibility with legacy ARINC 741 and new-generation ARINC 781 terminal equipment, but also supports Inmarsat Aero-H, H+, Swift64, and SwiftBroadband satellite communications services. Furthermore, its ability to perform at low angles extends the antenna’s coverage beyond Inmarsat’s specific zones.
