OneWeb and Kymeta demonstrate commercial SATCOM tech aboard Navy carrier USS Abraham Lincoln
HOUSTON - Commercial satellite communications (SATCOM) company OneWeb Technologies Inc. in Houston and fellow SATCOM specialists Kymeta Corporation in Everett, Wash. announced a sea trial of the Eutelsat OneWeb low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellite communications service aboard the USS Abraham Lincoln (CVN-72). The trial aims to evaluate the capabilities of OneWeb Technologies' and Kymeta’s satellite communications solutions in meeting the demands of maritime connectivity.
The evaluation will test the delivery of high-bandwidth, low-latency satellite communications services in the challenging maritime environment. It also seeks to integrate OneWeb Technologies' and Kymeta’s solutions with existing Navy systems, potentially leading to future procurement opportunities.
The trial supports Navy programs aimed at enhancing operations and personal communications, including the "Sailor Edge Afloat and Ashore" program. The trial features the Kymeta u8 LEO terminals, which provide high-speed, low-latency broadband connectivity over the Eutelsat OneWeb network.

“We are honored to support the mission of the USS Abraham Lincoln and to collaborate with the U.S. Navy to showcase the capabilities of the OneWeb constellation,” said Jonathan George, Senior Director of Business Development at OneWeb Technologies. “This trial will not only enable the Navy to benefit from our secure, reliable services for their critical operations, but also ensure the ship’s Sailors are able to communicate with their families and friends back home.”
Nick Oren, Kymeta’s Strategic Solutions Director for USMC/USN and a retired Marine Master Gunnery Sergeant, emphasized the importance of reliable communications. “Accessible, resilient and reliable communications are essential to every facet of life at sea for the U.S. Navy and Marine Corps team. Enabling the Sailors and Marines on the USS Abraham Lincoln to conduct operations, logistics, morale, and welfare while underway at sea is critical to the commander’s ability to project combat power and ensure informed decision-making in support of our national interests,” he said.
OneWeb Technologies provides secure and customized satellite communication services to governments and enterprises globally. Combined with Eutelsat America Corp. (EAC) and its GEO partners, OneWeb Technologies offers multi-orbit satellite solutions tailored to meet clients' needs.
Kymeta is providing its software-defined, multi-path, electronically steered array (ESA) terminals for the evaluation, which are designed for communications-on-the-move.
