Webinar discussing the development of high-rel brushless motor controllers for space applications to take place 20 September

Sept. 18, 2023

NASHUA, N.H. - Military + Aerospace Electronics cordially invites you to a FREE webinar on Wednesday, 20 September 2023 to learn more the importance of high-rel brushless motor controllers for specialized space missions. Motor controls are crucial to success in military and aerospace missions for various applications ranging from valve control, spacecraft attitude control, robotics, camera, lens control, antenna tracking and orientation, solar panel deployment and tracking, propulsion, tracking, orientation, and fluid management.

With the proliferation of satellites for government and commercial applications, the need for highly reliable motor controls operating in extreme environments is more critical than ever. Brushless DC motors offer a number of advantages for space missions, but they require motor controllers designed specifically for this purpose. Many missions also require a high level of radiation tolerance for both TID and Single Event Effects that cannot be achieved with a commercial off-the-shelf product.

In this webinar, we will discuss pros and cons of brushed versus brushless motors for use in space, and how Flight Works approached the challenge of developing high-rel brushless motor controllers for specialized space missions. The discussion will include advantages and disadvantages of COTS products for this purpose, as well as how Flight Works ultimately leveraged microcontrollers to build a highly reliable, radiation tolerant, highly flexible solution for their customers’ space missions.

Presenters include: Danny Miller, Embedded Software Engineer, VORAGO Technologies; James Robertson, Senior Avionics Development Engineer, Flight Works Inc.; and Jim Williams, Principal Engineer, VORAGO Technologies.
