STRATFORD, Conn., 8 Dec. 2005. Sikorsky Aircraft announced today the signing of a contract with Thales to jointly develop a new cockpit for the S-76D helicopter planned for delivery at the end of 2008.

The S-76D cockpit represents the most advanced solution specifically designed for helicopter operations. The intuitive design features large-format displays that are consolidated in an efficiently designed console for improved visibility and situational awareness. A full motion Level-D simulator will be available for pilot training and Sikorsky will provide after-sale support for the cockpit using the company's existing network and leveraging Thales' global footprint.

The launch of the S-76D was announced this past February encompassing a series of engine, air vehicle, rotor blade, interior and avionics upgrades to significantly enhance the performance, safety and reliability of the legendary S-76 line. The S-76D is poised to provide safety, performance and reliability in an economical, best value package.

"Sikorsky is pleased to cement its relationship with Thales as a teammate, as it offers outstanding technological capabilities and has the agility to adapt to rapidly changing avionics requirements in the market-place," said Mick Maurer, vice president for commercial programs at Sikorsky Aircraft. Also signing the contract was Phil Naybour, vice president for helicopter solutions at Thales.

Thales is an international electronics and systems group, serving defense, aerospace, services and security markets. The group employs 60,000 people worldwide and generated revenues of 10.3 billion in 2004.
