W.L. Gore microwave cable assemblies win platinum-level recognition in 2016 Technology Innovation Awards
NASHUA, N.H., 17 Nov. 2016. Cabling and connector experts at W.L. Gore & Associates Inc. in Newark, Del., have received a platinum award in the 2016 Military & Aerospace Electronics and Intelligent Aerospace Technology Innovation Awards for the company's GORE-FLIGHT 6 series microwave cable assemblies.
The award to the GORE-FLIGHT 6 series microwave cable assemblies was part of the top of three tiers of this year's Technology Innovation Awards. The top award level is platinum, the middle tier is gold, and the third tier is silver.
Military & Aerospace Electronics and Intelligent Aerospace made awards to company entries that offer solutions to difficult aerospace and defense electronics design challenges. The awards were presented on 14 Nov. 2016.
The GORE-FLIGHT 6 series microwave cable assemblies are suited for aerospace applications where compact profile and lightweight constructions are top design priorities.
The GORE-FLIGHT 6 series microwave cable assemblies are lightweight cables that deliver low insertion loss before and after installation for reliable performance for the life of the system.
More than 75 percent of microwave cables fail frequently -- and about 36 percent have to be replaced every year. These cables are qualified to airframe assembly specifications to withstand the punishment of installation and operation in radar, surveillance, and signals intelligence applications.
This cable solution delivers the lowest insertion loss for an assembly using size 8 RF contacts. Insertion loss is maintained during and after installation, ensuring reliable performance.
The robust construction of these assemblies can reduce costs by withstanding the challenges of installation, preventing costly production delays, field service frequency, and the need for purchasing replacement assemblies.
The compact option in this line measures 6.1 millimeters in diameter, weighs 60 grams, and offers a minimum bend radius of 25.4 millimeters. Typical, guaranteed and installed insertion loss for this model is rated at 0.342 dB/ft, 0.384 dB/ft and 0.354 dB/ft, respectively.
